Frontier Airlines announced today that it is resuming codeshare flights with Mexican low-cost carrier, Volaris. Starting yesterday, Frontier passengers can book flights to Mexico with departure dates after May 16th.
Frontier customers will be able to book both nonstop Volaris and connecting Frontier and Volaris itineraries on Frontier.com and through its mobile app (starting today, May 9th). The codeshare agreement reinforces Volaris’ commitment to expanding its operations. The airline currently operates more than 460 daily flights between 44 cities in Mexico and 29 in the United States, Central America, and South America.
Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines, said:
We are thrilled to resume codesharing with Volaris, which will provide Frontier customers the ability to easily and conveniently book travel to a huge array of exciting destinations in Mexico. Volaris is an excellent, well-established air carrier that has been in operation for nearly 20 years and, like Frontier, is focused on providing convenient, affordable, and friendly air travel.”
Enrique Beltranena, President and CEO of Volaris, added:
We are very excited with Frontier Airlines’ reignition of our codeshare partnership. This collaboration, that Volaris has maintained active for its customers since 2018, not only expands the travel options for Frontier customers, but also reinforces Volaris’ commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and offering an extensive range of destinations between our two nations. We share Frontier’s dedication to providing accessible, low-cost, and welcoming air travel experiences, and look forward to the opportunities this renewed partnership brings for both our airlines and our passengers.”
Volaris currently flies to the following US destinations:
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
- Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Denver International Airport (DEN)
- Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- McAllen International Airport (MFE)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)

Mexico returned to a Category 1 safety rating from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) back in September. This undoubtedly has led to the resumption of Frontier’s codeshare agreement since it could not be active after Mexico slipped to Category 2.
Anthony’s Take: I have to wonder if Frontier recently registering “Frontera” (more here) might somehow play into this codeshare with Volaris in Mexico. We’ll have to wait and see.
