All I need to get some work done is my laptop and a good Wi-Fi connection. That apparently is not enough for Indian tech billionaire, Bhavin Turakhia, as he set up quite the “travel rig” on a recent American Airlines flight complete with two screens, a full-sized keyboard, and mouse.

While in flight, Turakhia took up all of the space afforded to him in First Class on the American Boeing 777-300ER. In replies to his post (above), he mentions that the set up only takes him 30 seconds and that it improves his productivity by 40%. He must be doing something right as the 43 year old has a net worth of $1.3 billion. He’s currently working on the payment processing company Zeta.

American Airlines had no issue with his setup and even complimented him in a reply to his post. It’s interesting to see this billionaire not flying private and on American Airlines (I’d choose a foreign carrier for service over any of the US airlines). I don’t have much experience with American Airlines longhaul Wi-Fi, but Gary at View from the Wing points out:
This Boeing 777-300ER features Panasonic internet which, in American’s implementation, is excruciatingly slow with significant latency when it works at all. That’s in contrast to their domestic narrowbody fleet where Intelsat and ViaSat provide high speed satellite connectivity.”
Anthony’s Take: To each his own. I’ll stick with just my laptop while traveling (I actually only use a laptop at home without monitors or any other accessories).

Those Captain Kirk seats are the only thing I like about AA’s 777 first class. I’m rather surprised that a billionaire is flying commercial though.
