The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) broke all of the passenger records set during its 22-year history yesterday, May 24th. The agency screened over 2.95 million passengers across the United States.
BREAKING NEWS: If you flew yesterday, congratulations, you were part of a record-setting day! @TSA officers screened more people at airport security checkpoints nationwide yesterday (May 24th) than any other day in our 22-year history—2,951,163 individuals were screened! https://t.co/FGKq7N4WAL

The prior record was set 2.9 million on November 26, 2023, which was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. All forecasts called for travel to be way up (and it was) even with increased travel costs this summer. Passengers threw caution (and their wallets) to the wind and booked up seats on both domestic and international flights.
Ground stops at several major airports including Memphis International Airport (MEM), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) made it a rough travel day for some passengers, but overall airlines did not meltdown with the surge of travelers.
Anthony’s Take: I’m staying local in Florida this Memorial Day. This is one of the first times in the past decade that I’m not flying this weekend and with all of these folks traveling I’m kind of glad I’m not going too far. Safe and happy travels, everyone.
