SWISS award seats on transatlantic flights are next to impossible to secure. The airline does not open inventory to partners like United, Air Canada, Avianca, etc. There have been some anomalies through the years where seats have opened up randomly and I thought I stumbled across one last night.

UA SWISS F Awards

United is displaying seats available for mileage redemptions on SWISS flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) or Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Zurich Airport (ZRH), but only when searching from another airport like Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

I wonder why United is displaying this space when it’s normally not bookable and at a rate we have yet to see. Last month, United devalued partner First Class award flights and pushed options like US to Germany on Lufthansa from 121,000 to 154,000 miles. These seats at 140,000 fall somewhere in between, which is also odd.

It looks like there are multiple options to fly SWISS F, but these error out when you attempt to book them.

Anthony’s Take: I got excited for a moment and then realized that these award seats were not bookable. United is displaying the space, but it either errors out or says it’s no longer available in the booking flow. Weird.

SWISS operates an F cabin with its Airbus A330, A340, and Boeing 777-300ER. The A330 is used on these routes. The first flights from EWR or ORD are on UA.
