As I mentioned last week, I am a little under 10,000 MQMs from requalifying for Platinum Medallion®. I thought it would be fun to hit all nine of Delta’s hubs in one trip (under 48 hours). Some might say this is crazy and some visitors weighed in that they thought it was not a good idea. I was hoping to get a little further than my first segment before I had an issue. But, Mother Nature and Delta had other ideas. My first flight (LGA-MSP) was cancelled at 6:00 PM yesterday.

Thanks for the Christmas gift! I scrambled to see how I could piece an itinerary together but everything is either full or cancelled. I called and was met with a quoted wait time of 2.5 hours. I used the chat function and 80 minutes later, I got an agent. Unfortunately, this agent was not particularly helpful and easily confused. I had to explain that DTW was Detroit and not DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth). I disconnected and handled it myself.

Revised DL Map

Here is my new itinerary (in blue with the original in red above):

  1. Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) to Salt Lake City (SLC)
  2. Salt Lake City (SLC) to Seattle/Tacoma (SEA)
  3. Seattle/Tacoma (SEA) to Los Angeles (LAX)
  4. Los Angeles (LAX) to Boston (BOS)
  5. Boston (BOS) to New York (LaGuardia – LGA)
  6. Uber to JFK
  7. New York (John F Kennedy) to Detroit (DTW)
  8. Detroit (DTW) to Atlanta (ATL)

I am taking an Uber between LGA and JFK (and have four hours to get between them and make the connection).

With this itinerary, I’ll get to check out many of Delta’s aircraft types including:

As promised, I’ll be writing, posting to social media, and sharing updates as I go. We’ll see if the weather and Delta’s operations hold out. I’m feeling lucky and excited to try this again.
