Flying from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) today presented me with the opportunity to try another First Class meal option on United Airlines. I’m trying to eat a little bit “healthier” and opted for a Cobb Salad for this flight.

UA Cobb Salad

The Cobb Salad is available for pre-order (which I did) and also offered as a regular option presented to passengers that did not make a choice in advance.

The main course was served along with a brown roll and Red Velvet cake. I’m not sure what happened to the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding on this flight, but I opted to not eat the cake as it has been rather meh in the past. The salad was a good size and tasty. It included cherry tomatoes, hardboiled eggs, red onion, spinach, bacon crumbles, and blue cheese dressing. The chicken served with it was fine (although I hate the fake grill marks). The roll was warmed.

UA Red Velvet Cake

I missed the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding on this flight, but it’s probably for the best as I did not need it again. I can’t comment on this particular Red Velvet cake, but when served it in the past I was unimpressed. This was actually meant for and served on American Airlines flights. I knew I had eaten it before (just not on United). Thanks, @ptahcha for commenting and pointing this out.

Anthony’s Take: While I would have preferred the Magnolia Bakery dessert, it was still a nice meal and much better than what United has been serving over the past few years. I’m hoping United continues to invest in its catering as it makes for a much more pleasant onboard experience.

I don’t know what’s going on with UA’s catering company out of TPA, but the meals always have some kind of mistake, and often they don’t load the fresh food in economy. That is not how the Cobb salad should look like, and the red velvet cake is actually from AA catering.
