The catering on many of United’s domestic flights has improved. I have been super critical in the past, but United has been making some efforts to improve onboard meals. In addition to the regional dishes that United has started serving to represent its hubs, it is also changing up some of the other menu items. The Cheese Plate has long been my favorite as it’s simple and delicious. Recently, the description and images changed so I thought I’d give it a shot to see how the new version tasted. For some reason, what I was given was the tried and true. Here are my thoughts.
The new Cheese Plate is available for pre-order only. It’s supposed to have Cheddar Cheese, Blue Cheese, Brie Cheese, Marinated Olives, Caramelized Pecans, Almonds, Beef Salami, and Grapes. This is not what I received (which might be for the best because I don’t like olives, pecans, or almonds).
I was actually excited to get the older version. This one includes Cheddar Cheese, Brie Cheese, Dried Apricots, Almonds, Grapes, Prosciutto, and a Strawberry. It’s served with warm bread, a decent green salad, and the Apple Cake that’s been rotated lately. Everything was fresh and delicious. With the Cheese Plate, there is no worry about items being overcooked.
I am a fan of the Apple Cake and feel it’s seasonally appropriate (hoping it goes away after the fall for the year, however).
Anthony’s Take: Even though I don’t like several of the items on the new Cheese Plate. I’ll get one for review purposes.
