Happy Star Wars Day! While you might think of X-Wings and TIE Fighters as means of flying within the Star Wars universe, there are options to take to the sky much closer to home. Airlines around the world have partnered with Star Wars to create branded liveries featuring C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8, and Stormtroopers. I got to fly on United’s iteration a few years ago and it was a total fanboy moment.

ANA Star Wars Jets

ANA was the first airline to introduce branded planes in 2015 and they’re still flying. If you find yourself on the airline, you might be lucky enough to fly on a plane branded with R2-D2, BB-8, or C-3PO.

Alaska Star Wars

Alaska Airlines

Alaska debuted its Star Wars plane to transport passengers to Disneyland on May 4th of last year. The livery focuses on Galaxy’s Edge (the Disney-branded Star Wars theme park).

LATAM Star Wars

LATAM also partnered with Disney/Star Wars on a Galaxy’s Edge plane. It launched in 2019. I love the Stormtrooper on the tail.

United Airlines Star Wars

United Airlines

United partnered with Star Wars for the release of The Rise of Skywalker. It’s plane flew for several years and I was lucky enough to fly on it. When I got to the gate before boarding, I started gushing to the gate agent about how big a fan I was and I played the Global Services card (which I was at the time). I told him it would mean a lot to me to be able to board first to take photos and he allowed me to go down with the crew.

Star Wars Plaque

There is a plaque that commemorates the film and airline upon boarding.

Star Wars Plane interior

United took its partnership a step further and had custom seats installed throughout the plane with one half being designed with the First Order logo and the other bearing the logo of the New Republic.

Anthony’s Take: I am a die-hard Star Wars fan and love flying. These partnerships and planes are exciting and I hope to fly on the others at some point. May the Fourth be with you all.
