Southwest Airlines just added five new routes to its network including service to The Bahamas and Las Vegas. The Dallas-based carrier will launch flights between June and October.

Nassau

Demand for The Bahamas has soared recently. Last year, the islands recorded a historic 9.65 million total foreign air and sea visitors. Airline passengers are up 3.5% over 2019 and 17% over the 2022 numbers. The Bahamas has over 700 islands and cays and is only 50 miles away from Florida. Southwest’s new service will commence on June 4th and run seasonally until August 4th on a daily basis between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS).

Other new routes include:

  • Albany International Airport (ALB) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (4x weekly; starts on August 5th)
  • Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (4x weekly; starts on October 3rd)
  • Kansas City International Airport (MCI) to/from Sacramento International Airport (SMF) (4x weekly; starts on October 3rd)
  • Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (4x weekly; starts on October 3rd)

Anthony’s Take: Leisure travel is still booming even while business travel is still recovering. What was expected to be a short period of “revenge” travel has turned into an ongoing trend with full planes and passengers continuing to book.
