Some passengers were in for quite the lucky flight when they got to the gate for flight DL1946 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) this week when they found Sir Richard Branson onboard and announcing that all Delta SkyMiles members over the age of 18 were receiving a free Virgin Voyages cruise. This sure beats a Biscoff.
The flight from Atlanta to San Juan was chosen to celebrate the unveiling of Resilient Lady’s new homeport in San Juan later this year. Resilient Lady was named the “Best New Cruise Ship” in Cruise Critic’s 2023 Editors’ Picks Awards. It will begin sailing from Puerto Rico in December.
The gate was decked out and passengers began feeling that something special was happening before they even stepped foot on the Delta flight. They were treated to a dance routine from Virgin Voyages’ entertainment team while sipping specialty drinks prior to boarding. Delta’s SVP and Chief Communications Officer, Tim Mapes, led a modified game of roulette where passengers were invited to spin a wheel of prizes. Potential winnings included Delta and Virgin Atlantic flights, Virgin Hotel stays, a Virgin Voyages cruise, Delta Vacations packages, gift cards, and other high-end swag.

Once onboard, Sir Richard Branson announced that all Delta SkyMiles members (around 190 passengers on the flight) would be receiving a free Virgin Voyages cruise.
Sir Richard Branson said:
The Caribbean has been my home for many years, and I’m very excited to welcome Resilient Lady as she sails from San Juan to visit the region’s most beautiful destinations. My excitement clearly couldn’t be contained, so we came up with a way to celebrate with a personal invitation and surprise for some unsuspecting guests on a Delta flight to San Juan. We’re grateful for our partners at Delta for joining in on the fun and look forward to showing everyone what it’s like to Set Sail the Virgin Way!”
Anthony’s Take: I love promotional tie-ins like this one. I’ll admit that I’m slightly jealous of the passengers on this flight, but hope they enjoy their cruises.
