Marriott recently announced plans for lots of new luxury hotels around the world. One of those highlighted was the W Prague. This hotel marks the debut of the brand in the Czech Republic and it’s now open to guests.
The former Grand Hotel Europa (a renowned Art Nouveau-style building) is being transformed into the W Prague. The hotel joins newly added and beloved sister properties in Europe like the W Rome and W Budapest. It blends Prague’s heritage-filled legacy with contemporary touches and is located on Wenceslas Square.
The structure has witnessed many historical moments and was a pioneer of innovation in the 1900s. The hotel will offer 161 guestrooms and 23 suites (including the WOW Bohemia Duplex). Dining options include Le Petit Beefbar at Grand Café (an upscale bistro), the W Lounge on the ground floor of the contemporary wing, the lively W Lounge Garden for sharable plates and cocktails, and Bisou, which offers a quiet space for coffee, local wines, and champagne. The Above Rooftop is a seasonal outdoor terrace and Minus One (located in the basement) offers a creative cocktail scene.
To relax, guests can enjoy the AWAY Spa, which provides an escape from the lively city. It offers a WET pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, and the All Seasons Water Journey, a multisensory immersive experience where guests can encounter environments that replicate the sensations of all four seasons. A beauty bar and five treatment rooms, including one couple’s room, rounds out the spa. The W’s FIT (fitness center) is equipped with Matrix equipment and Fitness on Demand offerings.
Prague is often referred to as the “City of Gold” and this golden theme is seen throughout the design of the hotel. The color palate utilizes the original tones of the protected heritage building (including natural earthy hues of yellow, beige, terracotta, dark grey, and a unique green for the stucco decorations). Along with the meticulous restoration, a nine-story contemporary elliptical shaped addition has been added.
Anthony’s Take: Prague is a fun city with lots to explore (my tips can be found here). This new W looks gorgeous and is a great repurposing of the old hotel building.
