Marriott has 30 brands in its portfolio of hotels around the world. The hotel giant just announced the opening of its 50th Fairfield hotel in Greater China. The Fairfield by Marriott Chengdu High-Tech Zone recently opened in Chengdu, which is the capital city of Sichuan province.

The 145-room hotel looks much fancier than the Fairfield hotels I’m used to seeing around the United States. Guest rooms are well designed with 55-inch LED TVs, walk-in showers, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. The hotel’s Fairfield Restaurant is located on the 20th floor and offers a mix of Chinese and Western-style breakfast options. There is also a 24/7 market and fitness center.

The hotel is easily accessible from Chengdu South Railway Station and Shuangliu International Airport (CTU). Nearby tourist attractions include Jincheng Park, Guixi Ecological Park, and the Tiexiangsi Temple Water Street.

Mary Garris Vice President of Classic Select Global Brand Management, said:

We are thrilled to unveil the opening of Fairfield by Marriott Chengdu High-Tech Zone, which marks the brand’s 50th new opening in Greater China, a milestone of the brand’s development in this vibrant market. We are excited about the opportunity to bring Fairfield’s simple, seamless, and stress-free experience to more destinations in the country.”

Anthony’s Take: Marriott is the largest hotel chain in the world. While I have shifted a lot of my stays to Hyatt, I still enjoy many of Marriott’s brands outside of the United States. Its footprint is huge and continues to grow. Congrats on 50 Fairfield properties in China.

What exactly is “Greater China”? I know that China has been exceedingly aggressive about claiming lots of territory that isn’t theirs so “Greater China” tends to be a euphemism for anything they’ve decided belongs to them.
