With just days left of 2024, I started compiling a list of all of the airlines that folded over the past year. Many of these I had never heard of, but there are a few that I have flown and others that were a bit more familiar. Overall, 28 ceased operating or were folded into other airlines.

Here are all of the airlines that went out of business this year:

  • Air Bucharest (Romania) (March 2024)
  • Air Malta (Malta) (March 2024)
  • AIX Connect (India) (October 2024)
  • Albawings (Albania) (January 2024)
  • Azman Air (Nigeria) (Unknown)
  • Bonza (Australia) (April 2024)

Canada Jetlines Plane

Czech Airlines

  • CSA Czech Airlines (Czech Republic) (October 2024) (Former SkyTeam member airline)
  • Eagle Air (Iceland) (October 2024)
  • Fly Arna (Armenia) (January 2024)
  • FlyEgypt (Egypt) (October 2024)
  • HumoAir (Uzbekistan) (March 2024)
  • iAero Airways (United States) (April 2024)
  • JetAir Caribbean (Curacao) (June 2024)
  • Lanmei Airlines (Cambodia) (August 2024)
  • LIAT (Antigua and Barbuda) (January 2024)

Lynx Air

New Pacific Airlines

  • New Pacific Airlines (United States) (March 2024)
  • Nigeria Air (Nigeria) (May 2024) *Never launched and indefinitely postponed.
  • Nordica (Estonia) (November 2024)
  • Olympus Airways (Greece) (Unknown)
  • OTT Airlines (China) (September 2024)
  • Rex (Australia) (July 2024) *Regional flights still available.
  • Tailwind (United States) (August 2024) *Still offers some charters.
  • Taos Air (United States) (April 2024)

Vistara

  • Vistara (India) (November 2024)
  • WestJet Link (Canada) (October 2024)

Anthony’s Take: Operating an airline is not easy. Many of these seemingly obscure airlines served communities without other options or provided competition where there is now only a single carrier. RIP to all of these airlines.
