I am a Star Wars fanatic. I’ve seen the films countless times, can recite almost every line, and watched every TV series, cartoon, etc. When I first heard about a Star Wars hotel, I was excited. The Galactic Starcruiser would provide an immersive experience, but with a $1,200 per-person price tag (around $6,000 for families) my interest faded. I must not be alone as the hotel just announced that it is closing in September.

The hotel takes guests “aboard” the Halcyon starcruiser to embark on a two-night immersive adventure that transports them to a galaxy far, far away. Guests could interact with iconic characters, engage in secret missions, and immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of a Star Wars starship. From lightsaber training to space-themed cuisine, the Galactic Starcruiser promised an unforgettable journey for fans of all ages (but it’s high price-tag made it limited to a select few).

The company released a statement that was highlighted on CNBC:

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

I guess the Force was strong with this one, but not strong enough to survive at its price point.

Anthony’s Take: I am a Star Wars fanatic, but this hotel was too rich for my blood. I couldn’t justify spending this much money and it seems most others agree. May the Force be with you.
