Hilton Honors does not currently guarantee elite members late checkout. The late check-out benefit has been by request only and subject to availability. A new element will soon be added to keeping a room longer than the posted checkout time: cold, hard cash. Hilton looks to standardize the costs for late checkout and roll this out with its new property engagement platform next year.
Loyalty Lobby first reported that Hilton plans to standardize confirmed late check out fees across all properties by brand. Fees range from $40 to $60 depending on the brand. These fees do not include taxes. Late checkout will be sold as an add-on during booking and available up to 72 hours before a stay. This will be up to the hotels to make it available or not.
Loyalty Lobby further noted that the late checkout benefit has been removed from the benefits posters that Hilton provides hotels and from Hilton’s elite benefits matrix. If this applies to elite members than it puts Hilton even further behind Hyatt and Marriott as both offer top elites guaranteed 4:00 PM checkout (aside from resorts and convention center hotels).
Anthony’s Take: This seems like a cheap cash grab to me. Hotels that keep stripping away benefits and act greedy will see what happens when travelers speak with their wallets.

I frequently ask for 1 hour later check out. If they sell late check out, this free hour will likely not be allowed, even if the paid late check out is for more than 1 hour. As a result, I am less likely to stay at Hilton brands. I could change my mind if they start offering discounts for late check in, which I am sure they will not.
Such a policy is going to make hotels even more disinclined to offer people late checkout. Thank you for your loyalty though!
