All Nippon Airways flight NH118 between Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) was forced to return to Tokyo on yesterday after an intoxicated passenger bit a flight attendant. She suffered a minor injury, but the passenger caused a major inconvenience for the other 158 passengers on the Boeing 787-8.

The 55-year-old man has not been publicly identified, but was allegedly “heavily drunk” when he bit the female crew member. The man was restrained by flight crew as the aircraft returned back to its origin. The passenger denies biting the flight attendant, but says that he does not remember what happened as he had taken a sleeping pill in flight. His antics caused the crew to time out and the flight ended up being delayed 19 hours.

There has been lots of news lately involving Japanese airlines. An ANA flight within Japan had to turn back on Saturday when a crack was found in a cockpit window. Another ANA aircraft collided with a Delta Air Lines plane at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) on Sunday evening. No injuries were reported in either incident. Earlier this month, a Japan Airlines aircraft burst into flames after crashing into a Japanese Coast Guard plane (five onboard the coast guard aircraft were killed) (more here).

Anthony’s Take: Alcohol and flying don’t always mix well. Throw in a sleeping pill and the recipe for potential disaster increases. Luckily, this incident was quickly fixed with a return flight back to Tokyo. People never cease to amaze me.

Wait, you mean half a dozen martinis and a couple of Ambien, on an empty stomach, while flying alone, might not be a prudent idea? Who knew? Effing moron deserves a 20 year stint on the no-fly list.

Don’t care what drugs he was on. It’s no wonder Americans are more and more hated around the world. So tired of people like this. I am guessing he may end in an unpleasant legal situation in Japan.
