A tragic video shows the passengers boarding the plane. Heavy rain and an an error in the approach to landing are suspected to be the cause of the crash. All of the passengers were tourists that were on a sport fishing trip to Brazil’s Rio Negro River. Two other aircraft that were scheduled to land at Barcelos Airport (BAZ) cancelled their flights due to inclement weather.
Amazonas governor, Wilson Lima, posted on Twitter/X:
I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members who were victims of the plane crash in Barcelos on Saturday. Our teams have been working from the outset to provide the necessary support. My sympathy and prayers go out to their families and friends.”
Anthony’s Take: Air travel is one of the safest forms of transportation. That said, there are risks in everything. My thoughts are with the families that suffered loss from this crash.
