A SWISS flight had to cancel its takeoff after a reported bird strike. The flight’s brakes then overheated, which caused a ground stop at O’Hare and disrupted Friday-night travel plans for many.
SWISS flight LX9 was just on its way to Zurich Airport (ZRH) when the incident occurred. Luckily, the Boeing 777-300ER was able to abort without any injuries to the crew and passengers onboard. The flight was cancelled and the aircraft was towed to Terminal 5, Gate M14.

The ground stop went into effect at 7:54 PM and was lifted around 8:30 PM. Around an hour after the ground stop was lifted, delays were decreasing and most operations were back to normal with the exception of one runway that will be down for some time.
Anthony’s Take: You never know when an accident will occur. Thankfully, this was not more serious and operations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) have resumed normally.
