Hilton Honors is rolling out big changes to one of its most popular elite perks: room upgrades. The hotel loyalty program has introduced new features designed to make upgrades more transparent, more predictable, and easier to secure. These updates give elite members greater control over their stay experience and are a welcome addition.
Hilton Honors has launched a new “Upgrade at Digital Check-In” feature across its global portfolio. Eligible Gold, Diamond, and Diamond Reserve members can now view both complimentary and paid upgrade options directly within the Hilton Honors app during the digital check-in process. Rather than waiting until arrival to find out whether a better room is available, members can now see their options before reaching the hotel. The feature builds on Hilton’s existing automated pre-arrival upgrade program, which already processes complimentary upgrades for eligible elite members ahead of arrival when inventory allows. By displaying available upgrades in real time, Hilton hopes to create a smoother arrival experience while eliminating much of the uncertainty that has traditionally surrounded hotel upgrades.
Hilton has also introduced Confirmable Upgrade Rewards (CUR), a new benefit aimed at its most loyal members. The rewards allow eligible travelers to lock in an upgraded room (including up to a one-bedroom suite) at the time of booking for stays of up to seven nights. This is a wonderful addition and aligns Hilton with Hyatt for these upgrades. Unlike traditional complimentary upgrades, which are dependent on availability at check-in, Confirmable Upgrade Rewards guarantee the upgraded room in advance. The benefit can be used on both paid and award stays booked through Hilton’s direct channels, including Hilton.com, the Hilton Honors app, WeChat, and Hilton Reservations.

Confirmable Upgrade Rewards can be redeemed at select participating properties that already offer complimentary pre-arrival upgrades. This includes many of Hilton’s luxury and premium brands, such as:
- Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts
- Conrad Hotels & Resorts
- LXR Hotels & Resorts
- NoMad Hotels
- Signia by Hilton
The addition gives top-tier members a way to secure premium accommodations for special occasions without relying solely on upgrade luck.
Members can earn Confirmable Upgrade Rewards in several ways, including:
- Achieving Diamond Reserve status
- Reaching the 120-night milestone reward threshold
- Receiving a transferred or gifted reward from another Hilton Honors member

Room upgrades remain one of the most valued benefits in any hotel loyalty program, and Hilton is clearly investing in making the process more rewarding. Between real-time upgrade visibility during digital check-in and the introduction of guaranteed suite upgrades, Hilton Honors is giving members more flexibility than ever before. Whether travelers prefer the excitement of a complimentary surprise upgrade or the certainty of locking in a suite months in advance, these new enhancements are designed to make elite status feel more valuable.
Anthony’s Take: For frequent Hilton guests, the changes represent one of the most significant improvements to the Honors program in recent years (and another step in Hilton’s effort to compete for high-value travelers in an increasingly crowded loyalty landscape).
