Fiji Airways and WestJet have announced a new codeshare partnership designed to improve connectivity between Canada and the South Pacific. This gives travelers easier access to destinations across Fiji, New Zealand, and Canada under a single booking. The new agreement strengthens Fiji Airways’ growing North American presence while expanding travel options for Canadian passengers seeking access to the South Pacific region.
Under the partnership, Fiji Airways will place its “FJ” code on several WestJet domestic routes across Canada, including flights serving Calgary International Airport (YYC), Edmonton International Airport (YEG), Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), and Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG). These connections will feed into Fiji Airways’ international services through its North American gateways.
In return, WestJet will place its “WS” code on Fiji Airways flights between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Nadi International Airport (NAN) along with onward service to destinations throughout New Zealand, including Auckland Airport (AKL), Christchurch Airport (CHC), and Wellington International Airport (WLG).
The codeshare announcement comes alongside an expansion of Fiji Airways’ Vancouver operations. Beginning June 18th, the airline will operate 3x weekly year-round flights between Nadi International Airport (NAN) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Starting September 8th, Fiji Airways will also introduce the Airbus A350 on all Vancouver flights to increase both capacity and onboard comfort for travelers. The airline said the expanded service reflects growing demand from Canadian travelers visiting Fiji and other South Pacific destinations.

Passenger traffic between Canada and Fiji has increased by 19% year-over-year with many travelers continuing onward from Fiji to Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island destinations.
Passengers booking through either airline will benefit from a more streamlined travel experience, including:
- Single-booking itineraries
- One-time check-in
- Through-checked baggage to final destinations

Additionally, travelers purchasing WestJet-coded itineraries will now be able to earn and redeem WestJet Rewards points across their entire journey. The partnership also arrives as diplomatic and economic ties between Canada and Fiji continue to strengthen. Earlier this year, Canada officially opened its High Commission in Suva (Fiji’s capital city) with a focus on expanding economic partnerships and supporting climate resiliency initiatives between the two nations.
Paul Scurrah, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, said:
Canada represents a growing and high-value market for Fiji and the wider Pacific. This partnership with WestJet makes it easier than ever for Canadian travelers to experience the warmth, culture and natural beauty of Fiji, while also supporting increased visitor flows into our region.”
Anthony’s Take: For both airlines, the partnership is expected to improve connectivity, boost tourism, and provide stronger access between Canada and the South Pacific as demand for long-haul leisure travel continues to grow.
