A tragic accident at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on the evening of May 7th resulted in the death of a Delta Air Lines employee after ground equipment struck a jet bridge.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a tug vehicle hit a jet bridge where a Delta aircraft was parked at the gate. The collision led to the fatal incident involving a Delta team member working on the ground. Authorities have not yet released additional details about how the accident occurred. Delta Air Lines flight DL 2593 was ready for a flight to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) when the incident occurred.
Delta confirmed the loss of one of its employees and released the following statement:
The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of a team member while on the job at Orlando International Airport. We are focused on extending our full support to family and taking care of our Orlando team during this difficult time. We are working with local authorities as a full investigation gets underway to determine what occurred.”
The airline temporarily paused operations at Orlando International Airport (MCO) as it began working with investigators. The flight was canceled as a result of the accident and affected passengers were accommodated on other flights. A full investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the accident, including the circumstances surrounding the tug’s impact with the jet bridge.
Anthony’s Take: As investigations continue, the focus remains on understanding what happened and preventing future incidents. My condolences to the individual’s family, friends, and colleagues.
