The Lufthansa Group is expanding its investment in premium passenger experience with a major upgrade that will bring Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet to every aircraft in its fleet (across all of its airlines). Beginning in the second half of 2026, the group’s roughly 850 aircraft will be outfitted with Starlink. This will make Lufthansa the largest European airline group to adopt broadband satellite service at scale. airBaltic was the first European airline to roll out Starlink with Air France, SAS, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic also committing.

The partnership with Starlink will provide significantly higher bandwidth and faster speeds compared to current inflight connectivity options. This will enable streaming, cloud-based work, and other data-intensive activities across all travel classes. Internet access will be offered free of charge for registered users. The group is aiming to make high-speed inflight connectivity a standard amenity rather than a premium add-on.

The rollout will cover both existing aircraft and future deliveries and is set to conclude by 2029. Lufthansa Group carriers will collectively become the first in Europe to implement Starlink on such a large fleet. Beyond passenger benefits, the upgrade aligns with the company’s broader investments in new aircraft, digital services, and premium cabin and ground innovations while it celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, said:

In our anniversary year, in which we are celebrating Lufthansa’s 100th birthday, we have decided to introduce a new high-speed internet solution from Starlink for all our airlines. The Lufthansa Group is taking the next step and setting an essential milestone for the premium travel experience of our customers. Connectivity on board plays an important role today, and with Starlink, we are not only investing in the best product on the market, but also in the satisfaction of our passengers.”

Anthony’s Take: Additional details on implementation are expected to be shared later this year as the collaboration moves toward launch. This is exciting news for Lufthansa flyers.
