Hilton has reached a major milestone with the opening of its 9,000th hotel worldwide. This was achieved just one year after surpassing the 8,000 mark. The luxury conversion of Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, TX, marked the occasion and highlights the company’s continued (impressive) pace of nearly three openings per day.
The new property introduces the Signia brand to Hilton’s growing Texas portfolio. It features 496 guest rooms, including 34 boutique-style villas and an exclusive adults-only floor. The resort’s design draws inspiration from the Texas Hill Country and blends refined interiors with regional character to deliver a luxury experience.
Christian Charnaux, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Hilton, said:
Much like we make a promise to our guests to deliver reliable and friendly stays, we are committed to being owners’ partner of choice. Reaching this milestone of 9,000 hotels is a powerful testament to that commitment. Our brands consistently deliver industry-leading performance for our owners, which enables us to deploy our brands – both existing and new – into markets around the world every day. With just 5% of the existing share of global rooms and 21% of rooms under construction, Hilton has tremendous opportunity to further grow our portfolio well beyond 9,000 hotels.”
Hilton’s rapid growth extends across multiple regions and segments. The company now operates more than 1,000 luxury and lifestyle hotels globally. Key regional milestones include 1,000 properties open in both Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East, and Africa. In North America, Hilton has surpassed 6,000 hotels in the United States, 200 in Canada, and 500 in Florida. It has also opened 100 in one of my favorite countries, Italy.
Future expansion plans include growing Hilton’s presence tenfold in India, tripling in Africa, quadrupling in Saudi Arabia, and surpassing 250 luxury and lifestyle hotels across Asia Pacific. With more than 3,600 hotels currently in development, the company continues to see strong demand from owners.
Anthony’s Take: The 9,000th opening underscores Hilton’s momentum and its ability to pair global scale with strategic investments in luxury, lifestyle, and conversion opportunities. Marriott currently has more than 9,300, IHG is over 6,600, and Hyatt has more than 1,450 globally. These are massive portfolios and I love that there are so many opportunities to earn and redeem points around the world.
