A British Airways flight attendant has admitted to performing aviation duties while under the influence of drugs after being discovered naked and incoherent in an onboard lavatory during a transatlantic flight.
Haden Pentecost, 41, was working on a flight from California to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) when he became visibly agitated, sweating, and “babbling,” Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court heard. Colleagues later found him locked inside a lavatory, completely undressed, and allegedly smoking crystal meth. A blood test revealed Pentecost had methamphetamine and amphetamines in his system.
Witnesses said the flight attendant appeared high and incoherent when confronted by colleagues. According to reports, he admitted: “I’ve been a very naughty boy.” Pentecost had already been stood down by his manager prior to takeoff after failing to assist with pre-flight safety checks. After being discovered in the lavatory, crew monitored him every 20 minutes until the aircraft landed. Police boarded the plane and removed him. Paramedics treated him on site before he was taken to a local hospital.
Pentecost had worked for British Airways since 2018 and was previously featured in the airline’s inflight safety video. He was known for his party boy lifestyle and often posted on social media about it. He had reportedly been under investigation by the airline for earlier conduct and British Airways confirmed to the BBC that he has since been dismissed.
Pentecost pleaded guilty to performing an aviation function while impaired by drugs. He was granted bail and will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court at a later date.
Anthony’s Take: I’m all for having a good time, but this is next level. Hopefully, he will get the help he needs.
