I’ve written several times about Air Transat. Before last year, I had never even heard of the Canadian airline, but it was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Today, it announced that it will be adding nonstop flights between Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to/from Rio de Janeiro/Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG) starting this winter.
Flights will depart twice weekly from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) and once weekly from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) (on Thursdays) using Airbus A330-200 aircraft with between 330 and 345 seats (including 12 Club Class seats). This winter, Air Transat will operate a total of 14 new routes from its Canadian gateways. These include several new destinations and the extension of certain transatlantic flights. From Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), travelers will enjoy non-stop access to Rio de Janeiro/Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG), Guadalajara International Airport (GDL), Valencia Airport (VLC), Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD), and Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). From Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), they will be able to fly to Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO), Medellín Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE), Rio de Janeiro/Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG), and Istanbul Airport (IST) in partnership with Turkish Airlines.
Sebastian Ponce, Transat’s Chief Revenue Officer, said:
his enriched winter schedule marks an important milestone in the evolution of our network. By targeting markets we have never served before, we are pursuing a clear diversification strategy toward destinations that Canadians are eager to explore, supported by growing connectivity through our expanding network of partners.”
Anthony’s Take: Air Transat fascinates me and fills in some gaps in the Canadian airline market to bring leisure travelers around the world. It’s got an ambitious schedule this coming winter with some cool lines on the map.
