I had to attend a conference in Cambridge this month held at the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge. I stayed two nights and while the hotel is a bit dated, I was given a lovely suite upgrade that was perfect for hosting meetings during the conference. Elite treatment was good and I enjoyed my time at the hotel with lovely views of the Charles River.

Anthony’s Take: Since my conference was held at this hotel, I booked it for two nights. The old-school, atrium-style lobby is something that is being seen less and less. I found the interior balcony with the planters filled with rocks a bit odd, but the suite was large and comfortable. The staff was friendly and I felt that Globalist status was well recognized here.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge Booking

Booking

I booked my stay on Hyatt.com on a “Members Save More” rate for a 1 King Bed room. The rate was $302 plus tax. The hotel charges a $20 Destination Fee plus taxes. This was waived for me as a Globalist and removed from the folio without me having to ask. The check-in agent did not even mention the fee or what it included. If you’re not paying cash, World of Hyatt® points can be redeemed here for 17,000 to 23,000 points as it falls into Hyatt’s Category 5.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to the hotel. It took around 14 minutes for the eight-mile drive and cost $44. I returned the next day and it took around the same time.

Location

The hotel is located near Harvard University, MIT, and Kendall Square. There are some restaurants not far and it’s easy to cross the bridge to get into Boston for lots more to explore. The Charles River is across the street and it’s fun to watch the boats go by and to see the college students rowing.

The lobby has a good amount of seating and the coffee shop in it. During my visit, this space was packed with people for the conference.

Check-In

Check-in is directly inside the doors on the left side. I arrived around 2:30 PM and my suite was ready. The agent checking me in told me I had been upgraded to one of the University Suites (I had already seen this on the app). He did not mention the Destination Fee’s inclusions or that it existed (I guess because I’m a Globalist). I did not need a late checkout, but was not asked either. Breakfast was offered, but I would not have time to eat there. He then printed my keys and I was off to check out the suite.

Boston University Suite (632)

There are 479 rooms and suites at the hotel.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 12

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 23

The suite opens with a living room to the left and the bedroom and bathroom to the right.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 13

A closet is near the door. It held and extra blanket and pillow.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 14

A mini-bar area was nearby. This offered a refrigerator, sink, Keurig, as well as cups, coffee pods, and condiments.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 15

The refrigerator was empty except for two water bottles.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 16

Shelves above the area held coffee pods, cups, and condiments. An ice bucket was on the counter.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 30

I loved the views of the river.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 21

There was also a desk and chair in this room.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 22

A door opened to the atrium with a balcony. This was an odd place to sit and the planters were filled with glued together rocks.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 24

A bench and live plant were in the hallway. I always love when hotels include live plants.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 25

The hallway led to the bedroom.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 26

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 27

The bedroom included a king-sized bed and two nightstands. Outlets were limited, but there was a power strip.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 28

A TV was mounted on the wall across from the bed and above a dresser.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 29

A chair and lamp were near the window.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 31

A closet held a safe, slippers, and a robe.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 32

The safe was larger than what you find at many hotels.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 35

A full-length mirror was outside of the bathroom.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 33

The bathroom was off of the bedroom. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower. For as spacious as the suite was (around 800 square feet), the bathroom was tight.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 34

The vanity offered a good amount of counter space.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 35

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 36

Amenities on the counter included Pharmacopia brand bar soap, makeup removal wipes, a sewing kit, a vanity kit, and more.

The toilet was very close to the vanity.

Pharmacopia Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash were mounted to the shower wall.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 41

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel has a fitness center, a restaurant, a small book lending library, postcards, and an outdoor garden area.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 42

Complimentary postcards can be sent for guests.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 43

The fitness center is near reception.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 44

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 47

It was on the smaller side, but included a good amount of equipment.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 45

I liked that there were Peloton Bikes inside.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 46

Chilled towels and wipes were on offer.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 48

A microwave was also near the front desk for guest use.

Hyatt Regency Cambridge 49

I liked that the hotel offered a small lending library of books.

Overall Impression:

The hotel is a good choice if you need to be in Cambridge. It has everything that you’ll ned whether there on business or for fun. The suite I was given was great for holding meetings and having space to spread out.
