Southwest Airlines announced today that it’s adding its first new route in more than four years. St. Thomas’ Cyril E. - Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA)
- Belize City’s Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE)
- Cancún International Airport (CUN)
- Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM)
- Havana’s José Martí International Airport (HAV)
- Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)
- Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR)
- Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
- Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS)
- Providenciales International Airport (PLS)
- Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR)

Bob Jordan, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Southwest Airlines, said:
We are listening closely to what our Customers want—from new products and loyalty benefits to new destinations. We want to make Southwest Airlines the easy and obvious choice every time, and this is another meaningful step in our ongoing transformation.”
Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, added:
We are excited at the announcement of new airlift into St. Thomas with Southwest Airlines. As a destination, this expands our accessibility and connectivity to travelers, allowing for seamless and expanded travel opportunities to experience the natural beauty, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality that define the U.S. Virgin Islands.”
Anthony’s Take: Southwest has had a tumultuous year with lots of changes enacted and even more coming. Premium and assigned seating, bag fees, changes to benefits, and more have made Southwest seem like a very different airline. It’s good to see it growing its route network, but we’ll need to wait and see if any of this will be enough.
