The four largest airlines in the United States have issued travel waivers for passengers traveling to, through, or from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) next Saturday, June 14th. Trump’s birthday/Army birthday parade will disrupt operations and the airlines are proactively offering free changes.
American Airlines
American Airlines is allowing passengers scheduled for June 14th to change their tickets to any day between today and June 16th. Tickets must have been purchased by June 5th and must be booked in the same cabin. Full waiver details can be found here.
Delta Air Lines
Delta is allowing passengers to switch to either Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) if they’re currently booked on June 14th. Passengers need to rebook and travel by June 16th. Details can be found here.
Southwest Airlines
Southwest is also allowing changes and new flights must be booked within 14 days of the original flights. These can also be changed to nearby airports: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). More details here.
United Airlines
United is showing a waiver for flights on June 14th as well. New flights can be booked on June 13th or 15th and alternate airports, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), are options. Details can be found here.
Next Saturday, is the Army’s 250th birthday and President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. To celebrate, a military-style parade is scheduled for June 14th. This will include quite the spectacle with 150 helicopters, the Army’s Golden Knights parachuting onto the Ellipse, and the presentation of an American flag to President Trump. With all of this organized chaos, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) will see suspended flights for several hours due to an Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) directive.
The parade begins at 6:00 PM and runs through 9:30 PM when fireworks are set to launch. All of this will cause significant delays, cancellations, and general disruptions. The FAA is forecasting that around 100 flights will be held at their departure airports with a limited number of departures allowed after 8:45 PM. This event is expected to cost north of $45 million and will include 6,600 soldiers and 150 military vehicles.
Anthony’s Take: It’s best to avoid DCA on June 14th. The parade is going to disrupt air traffic and you should make alternative plans while you still have choices.

Definitely keep your children out of the DC parade area on the 14th. Several Democrat activist groups are headed there asking that members be masked and some members are openly advocating rebellion and the bringing of weapons. Hard to tell what kind of s**tstorm is coming, but if it is anything like the Los Angeles warm up act expect there may be teargas, smoke and possible lethal or nonlethal gunfire. Chances are elevated that this will not end up a family friendly event.
