The president and director of Chicago’s Art Institute (yes, the one of Ferris Bueller fame) is taking an administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing around his behavior on a Munich-bound United Airlines flight. United flight UA 953 from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Munich International Airport (MUC) saw police called to meet the aircraft upon arrival after James Rondeau allegedly removed his clothing in flight.
CBS News reports that Rondeau had drank alcohol and taken prescription medication on the April 18th flight before the reported striptease took place in the Polaris® cabin. No criminal charges were filed against Rondeau, but he has taken a voluntary leave. An Art Institute spokesperson shared the following statement:
The Art Institute takes this very seriously and has opened an independent investigation into the incident to gather all available information.”
It’s unclear what more the Art Institute is looking to learn, but it’s understandable that they are hitting pause since Rondeau makes more than $1 million a year and the museum is regarded as one of the best in the nation. The museum dates back to 1879 and is my favorite in Chicago. Rondeau has been in his current role since 2016.
Anthony’s Take: Alcohol and prescription medication at 35,000 feet is a recipe for disaster. In my opinion, Rondeau should hold onto his job and just watch his future intake.

“The Art Institute of Chicago is regarded as one of the best in the nation?” For what – performance art?
It’s home to American Gothic, Nighthawks, and multiple paintings from van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, etc.
