Iberia has updated its schedule with a westbound transatlantic flight that departs Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) at 12:55 AM. I love that this flight departs at a time where I could have a full day in Europe and get to sleep on the aircraft.

When the flight to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) changes to its new time, it will offer the only overnight transatlantic flight headed westbound from Europe. This is exciting news for travelers who are used to most flights coming from Europe to the United States departing in the morning.

With the eastbound departure flying at 1:55 PM and arriving in Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) at 6:15 AM, passengers will be able to easily connect all over Europe. The same can be said for this flights reverse with the plane landing at American’s largest hub: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) at 5:30 AM.

Anthony’s Take: While departing at almost 1:00 AM might feel odd to some, I love the idea of being able to spend a full day in Europe and then head home late at night. I love United’s flight to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) that departs at 8:20 AM for a similar reason. I can land in London, have dinner, and go to bed. I will then wake up refreshed and ready to go. I wish more airlines offered redeye, westbound flights from Europe.

Aeromeixico has been doing this for years from MAD, AMS, CDG, LHR, and now FCO. Ive taken the overnight west flights often. Iberia is just copying what was already working for AM.
