My flight from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Newark Liberty International (EWR) yesterday had an interesting pre-order option. I had never had the Porcini Tortelloni, so I had to try it when it popped up as a pre-order choice.
While my pre-order was catered, it was the only pasta like it that was on the flight. Other passengers were given the option of United’s odd take on Tortellini en Brodo (my review here). The flight attendant initially brought me the wrong pasta and then realized her mistake.
The correct tray included a white bread roll (warmed) and the usual green salad that United has been serving lately, and what is still one of my favorite in-flight desserts: Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding.
The pasta had a faint mushroom taste and was cooked so the pasta was not mushy, but I was not expecting a red sauce based on the description (since it said it would have a Brie Cream Sauce). I think I’m going to have to try this dish again to see if I get something closer to the menu.
I will continue to rave about Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding and devour it every time that it’s served. Live and Let’s Fly recently shared that this will change to the Red Velvet variety soon and I’m looking forward to that one as well.
Anthony’s Take: I’m not sure this meal was prepared properly, but I enjoyed it. United has vastly improved its catering in domestic First Class.

Thanks for this… I’ve seen this one a few times on pre-order and have avoided it until actually seeing a non-app-menu photo. I may give it a try.
I had preordered the new Houston signature dish – a shrimp one – this weekend but my flight canceled unfortunately.
I have yet to try that Houston dish. I have a flight from there in a few weeks and hope to then.
