Delta Air Lines is preparing for next winter just a few days after spring began this year. The airline will add flights between Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) along with increased frequencies to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG).

Kona, HI

The new route will be Delta’s 17th from the US mainland to Hawaii. Flights between Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) will begin on December 19th and run seasonally through March 28th. The route will be served with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft that offer 26 Delta One®, 35 Delta Comfort+, and 165 Main Cabin seats. This is not the first time that Delta has offered this route. It last flew between these cities from 2005 to 2007. Delta also flies to/from Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

In addition to the new route, Delta will increase frequency on two Hawaiian routes. A second daily flight between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) as well as a second daily flight between Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG will run from December 19th to January 5th. Larger aircraft will also be subbed into other Hawaiian routes to meet increased demand next winter.

Anthony’s Take: Delta is getting ready for next winter with a new Hawaiian route, increased frequencies, and larger planes. While demand is cooling in some markets, it seems like Hawaii is still hot.
