Frontier Airlines has been advancing and retreating from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for some time. It announced a trio of highly lucrative routes last June and cut six others in December as part of a massive slash to its route network with 40+ routes being cancelled. Now, the low-cost carrier is adding nine more routes to Delta Air Lines largest hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The hometown airline is not going to like this competition.

Those looking for lower-cost alternative flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will be excited to see these eight routes coming soon:

  • Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) (1x weekly; starts on May 24th)
  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) (3x weekly; starts on June 13th)
  • Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) (2x weekly; starts on June 12th)
  • Kansas City International Airport (MCI) (3x weekly; starts on May 23rd)
  • Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) (3x weekly; starts on May 22nd)
  • Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) (2x weekly; starts on June 13th)
  • San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) (3x weekly; starts on June 12th)
  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) (2x weekly; starts on June 12th)
  • St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) (4x weekly; starts on June 12th)

Frontier is looking to increase departures by 40% year-over-year at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). It’s interesting to note that Southwest will be ceasing flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), Will Rogers International Airport (OKC), and Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) on April 7th. Frontier clearly sees an chance to pick up these markets.

Anthony’s Take: Frontier Airlines seems to add and cut routes faster than any other carrier. It’s interesting to watch it expand in Atlanta. Delta holds around 73% of the airport’s flights and it will likely be swinging on these routes to make Frontier go away.
