United added “Signature Dishes” from its hubs in 2024 and I’m continuing to taste many of them as I am back to flying United as my primary carrier. I’ve shared my reviews of other recent choices including Los Angeles (here), Washington DC (here), Houston (here), and Chicago (here and here). I was visiting my mom in New Jersey this weekend and finally got to taste the Newark Signature Dish.

UA Newark Signature Dish

The Newark Signature Dish consists of seared beef tenderloin with creamy spinach, scallop potato squares, and bordelaise sauce. This is only available when passengers select it in advance.

The tray that I received included the steak, creamed spinach, and scalloped potatoes, along with a  green salad, a semolina roll, and Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding. Everything was well seasoned and tasty except for the spinach, which lacked flavor and needed salt. The roll was warmed. United has stepped up its game and this meal was another fine example.

Peter Luger’s and Bern’s Steak House have nothing to worry about when it comes to steaks. I like my meat cooked rare. This was way more well done than I would have chosen, but it was still pleasant.

I still can’t get enough of the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding and I’m happy that United signed this partnership.

Anthony’s Take: While I would have preferred this steak to have been cooked less, it was still a nice meal and much better than what United has been serving over the past few years.

That “beef” looks so pale in the pics….I thought it was a pork filet. Yuck!

It tasted better than it looked. If it was rarer, I would have enjoyed it more.
