Back in March, I wrote about the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa planning to open next year. It’s now bookable beginning in August 1, 2025. The property will be open seasonally until October 31st.

Crete is my favorite island in Greece. I was bummed to see the Blue Palace leave Marriott Bonvoy®. We’ve stayed there several times and loved each visit. This new property will hopefully help to fill the hole left on the island within Marriott’s portfolio.

The JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa will span 100 acres and include 160 luxury guest rooms, suites, and villas. The renderings look elegant with calming tones and modern designs. All suites and villas will feature a private pool or jacuzzi.

The resort will be located in Chania along Marathi Beach (which is on the opposite coast of the Blue Palace). Design plans for the resort also show multiple tranquil wellness spaces, multiple swimming pools, a fitness center, beach club, spa, and Family by JW experiences.

Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International, said:

Greece remains as one of the most attractive destinations for today’s global traveller, and the signing of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa reflects the continued demand we are seeing for luxury accommodation across the country. We look forward to working with Vasilakis SA and SWOT Hospitality to introduce the brand’s legacy of extraordinary hospitality, thoughtful design, and enriching well-being experiences to the island destination of Crete.”

The property will be close to Chania International Airport Ioannis Daskalogiannis (CHQ) and a two-hour drive from Heraklion International Airport (HER).

While paid stays are now bookable via Marriott.com with rates ranging between 300€ and 500€ per night, award stays are not yet available. I’m going to guess that this will be classified in one of the higher award buckets, but we’ll need to see once these are updated.

Anthony’s Take: As mentioned, I’m excited for this property. Crete is one of my favorite Greek islands and while I prefer the other side of the island more, the area around Chania is also quite nice.
