Back in July, I wrote about Fiji Airways planning to add a new destination. It’s becoming a full member of oneworld® soon and after the other announcement that it will be adopting American Airlines’ AAdvantage® loyalty program as its own next year, the city it’s adding to the map should not surprise anyone. The carrier officially launched its 3x weekly service from Nadi International Airport (NAN) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) yesterday, December 10th.
Flights will be operated on an Airbus A350-900 with 33 Business Class and 301 Economy Class seats. The schedule will see flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Fiji Airways is based in Nadi International Airport (NAN). It serves 26 destinations in 15 countries and territories including oneworld® hubs in Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.
Fiji Airways CEO and Managing Director, Andre Viljoen, said:
This new route significantly enhances Fiji Airways’ connectivity in North America, making it easier than ever for Texans and U.S. travelers to explore Fiji’s pristine landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality, while also providing seamless access to the wider South Pacific region, Australia, New Zealand and beyond.”
The inaugural 13-hour flight from Nadi International Airport (NAN) touched down at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) yesterday at 3:25 PM. It was greeted with a water cannon salute as it taxied to the gate. The first-ever flight from Dallas departed yesterday. Passengers experienced a 13-hour overnight flight and the flight touched down at 5:20 AM on December 12th (due to the timezones).
Anthony’s Take: I have never been to Fiji. I was headed there a few years back, but a typhoon cancelled my plans. Maybe this will be the route that takes me there.
