An Azimuth Airlines Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft burst into flames during an emergency landing at Antalya Airport (AYT) in Türkiye. Flight A45051 had just landed from Russia’s Sochi International Airport (AER) when the harrowing incident unfolded.

The flight landed in heavy snowfall and strong winds at Antalya Airport (AYT). The fire reportedly started after the aircraft landed. All 89 passengers and six crew members evacuated without reported injuries as Antalya Airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) worked to extinguish the flames, according to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

Local media reports that the fire was quickly extinguished and that all 79 on board have been evacuated safely.

No cause has been determined as to the cause of the fire, but some passengers report that the aircraft landed hard and that the impact might have caused fuel to leak from the left engine before it caught fire.
This is a much better outcome than the Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet aircraft that caught on fire back in May 2019. That disaster caused 41 people to lose their lives at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport (SVO) upon landing. Per Sky News, “Russian state TV showed footage of the plane with black smoke rising above its tail, and video posted on social media showed much of the rear engulfed by flames as it sped down the runway.”
Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, it appears that everyone was able to evacuate without injuries.
