KLM announced today that it’s adding a new route between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and San Diego International Airport (SAN) in May 2025. This will be the Dutch carrier’s 15th destination in the United States.

KLM 787-9

The new flights will run 3x weekly (on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays) year-round using Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 30 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 225 Economy Class seats. This flight fills a gap in Transatlantic service offered by SkyTeam airlines as Air France, Delta, and Virgin Atlantic do not currently serve San Diego International Airport (SAN) nonstop to Europe. British Airways offers flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Lufthansa flies to Munich International Airport (MUC).

In June, KLM announced its 14th US destination: Portland International Airport (PDX). These flights began on October 27th and run 3x to 5x weekly service (it increases in the summer) to/from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. KLM’s other North American destinations include:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)
  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • Portland International Airport (PDX)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Anthony’s Take: I love KLM and have written about its Business Class and the Delft Houses they give to passengers. It’s exciting to see the airline continue to add new routes.
