An Air China passenger on flight CA2754 between Quzhou Airport (JUZ) and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) mistakenly opened an emergency exit door on an Airbus A320 last Thursday when she thought she was entering the lavatory. The emergency slide deployed and passengers slid down before the flight was cancelled.

The passenger was on her first-ever flight and mistakenly thought she was opening a door to use the restroom. She burst into tears when she realized what she had done and after being told that she was going to have to pay $28,000 in damages. The flight was cancelled and passengers were provided with hotel rooms and the equivalent of $55 in compensation.

Anthony’s Take: I get that it was her first time on a plane, but how do you confuse an emergency exit door with the lavatory? You’d think the steps needed to open it might have given her pause.

But if you’ve never been on a plane, EVRYTHING is new and unfamiliar. Though I would imagine there has to be some wording on the door itself.
