I voraciously devoured seasons one and two of the Max hit series, The White Lotus. The show offers an over-the-top look at luxury and excess. Its cinematography and sets (largely in Four Seasons hotels) draw you into a world of the workings of high-end hotels and the interesting guests that inhabit them along with a healthy mix of sex and murder. Season three has been known to take place in Thailand for some time and now the Four Season Koh Samui has been confirmed as the filming location.
The show has taken home 14 Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes. It’s become a pop-culture sensation with memes and reels popping up with the catchphrase, “These gays! They’re trying to kill me.” If you haven’t watched the show, I won’t spoil it for you. The anthology series has a rotating cast of characters with a few crossing between seasons.
Lucky at One Mile at a Time first noticed that the hotel was blocked from bookings this month and next, which led him to speculate that filming would be taking place there. This has now been confirmed. The Four Seasons Koh Samui offers white sandy beaches surrounded by lush tropical landscaping and impressive views of the Gulf of Siam. The hotel has 71 villas and private rentals. This is a far smaller hotel than the 383-room Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea from season one and the 111-room Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, Taormina from season two. As the plot has unfolded (and it seems to be focusing loosely on a murder plot), could it be that the smaller hotels in each season is a function of the plot narrowing in on the murderer (who has been identified, but not brought to justice) or am I reading too much into it?
Anthony’s Take: I can’t wait for season three, which is expected in 2025 due to the delays caused by the writers’ strike. The Four Seasons hotel group is genius in partnering here as the buzz has made room rates climb sky high at past locations.
