American Express was the first credit card issuer to open lounges with the Centurion® Lounge at Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) debuting in 2013 (full review here). More recently, Chase and Capital One have opened their own lounges. Chase began with The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) (full review here) and Capital One launched at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (full review here). Capital One then opened lounges in Denver International Airport (DEN) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) with plans to operate several more in the next few years. Other locations such as Harry Reid Las Vegas International Airport (LAS) are under construction (more here) and Capital One just announced that it’s opening another location at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The Capital One Lounge will be 13,000 square feet and located in the retail hall of Terminal 4 (home to Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air India, Avianca Brasil, Caribbean Airlines, China Airlines, Copa Airlines, Delta Air Lines, El Al, Emirates, Etihad, Hawaiian Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, LATAM, Singapore Airlines, Uzbekistan Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, WestJet, and more).

This lounge will offer:

  • Special culinary experiences that pay homage to NYC classics like coffee and bagels from an in-lounge bodega.
  • A specially trained cheesemonger will offer local cheeses from artisans in the nearby Hudson Valley and New York region, along with cured meats, homemade accompaniments, and paired with wine and beer.
  • The lounge will also have partnerships with local breweries, mixologists, coffee roasters, and bakeries.
  • Signature Capital One Lounge amenities including a grab and go food and drink selection, an in-lounge menu with a selection of small plates, shower suites, power outlets, Wi-Fi, and more.

Access to the Capital One Lounges is granted to Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Venture X Business primary cardholders. They can enjoy unlimited complimentary access, plus complimentary entry for two guests per visit (it costs $45 per visit for additional guests). Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business cardholders receive two complimentary visits towards their account per calendar year (additional visits can be purchased for $45). All other cardholders and non-customers can enter for $65. Children under age two can enter for free with a supervising parent or guardian. Access to all amenities is included with lounge entry.

JFK’s Terminal 4 already has a Centurion® Lounge and The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, along with Delta’s Sky Club®.

Anthony’s Take: The Capital One Lounge in Dallas was great and I look forward to future expansion from Capital One. This will be a great addition for all of those passengers transiting Terminal 4.

Anthony’s Credit Card Pick: I love the lounges that the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card allows me to access. I’ve been using this card more and more this year. While it does have an annual fee of $395, it provides many travel benefits like a $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel, a $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®, and 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel as well as 5x miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel.
