A poster on Reddit shared that they were flying Delta Air Lines First Class on Thursday when a fellow passenger “had a poop accident” in flight. “An incredibly foul odor” filled the cabin and the passenger was proactively given miles as compensation. The number has not been disclosed, but it makes me wonder how many miles is reasonable to have to sit through a flight smelling human feces?

Was on a poop flight – great FA

According to @manateefourmation, the flight attendant refused to clean it up after passengers requested that she do so. The poster told the flight attendant that “it was not her job and she was doing a great job under the circumstances.” She rewarded the poster with a note and said that she awarded him some miles. This got me wondering, how many is some and what is reasonable compensation? I’m not saying that this is anyway the airline’s fault, but what seems fair when a passenger poops in the cabin?

This is not the first incident of pooping accidents on an airplane. Back in January, I wrote about Delta Air Lines flight DL2162 where the foul odor of one passenger’s feces filled the air of the Christmas Eve flight from Birmingham Airport (BHM) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Apparently, the passenger had an accident, but then proceeded to sit in it throughout the flight.

In April, I shared that Spirit Airlines flight NK1595 between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) had a mysterious liquid flowing down the aisle from one of the rear lavatories. Spirit confirmed that “a potable water line connected to a sink in the rear lavatory” was the culprit. This is much better than it being an overflowing toilet like I wrote about in March 20023 on a United flight from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Anthony’s Take: This is disgusting and no amount of free miles would make me happy to sit in a foul smelling cabin. The passenger should have been proactive and when that failed the flight attendant should have broken out the coffee grounds at the very least to cover the smell.
