Virgin Atlantic announced yesterday that it will be returning to Canada after a decade of not flying to the country. Flights between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) are scheduled to begin on March 30, 2025.
The route will be operated by an Airbus A330-900neo aircraft with 32 Upper Class, 46 Premium Economy, and 172 Economy Class seats. Virgin Atlantic last flew to Canada with its service to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This route was cancelled in 2014. The hope for the new flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is to connect two global financial hubs. It will provide optimal connectivity for Virgin Atlantic’s Indian customers via London Heathrow Airport (LHR) from its newly launched destination Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) along with 2x daily flights from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).
Virgin Atlantic also announced that it is expanding its codeshare agreement with Canadian carrier WestJet. This is set to begin in October. The partnership will allow Canadian passengers to travel throughout the region, including flights from Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW) and Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG). Benefits for both airlines’ frequent flyers are expected to arrive in 2025.
Anthony’s Take: Toronto is a nice add for Virgin Atlantic and one that I hope will offer decent Business Class fares across the Atlantic.
