United Airlines has been the official airline partner of the Chicago Bears for more than 50 years. Around 76,000 Bears fans traveled to away games last season and United is looking to make it easier for them to see their favorite team this coming season with today’s announcement. The airline is making the departure times of six flights late enough fly home the same night, flying larger planes on two routes, and adding an additional nonstop flight between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) for a game in the UK.

Departure Updates

The return flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) have been adjusted so that fans can catch the game and get home same day. These include:

  • Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) on September 15 (departs at 11:59 PM)
  • Indianapolis International Airport (IND) on September 22 (departs at 7:19 PM)
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) on November 3 (departs at 8:45 PM)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) on November 28 (departs at 5:30 PM)
  • San JosĆ© Mineta International Airport (SJC) on December 8 (departs at 7:00 PM)
  • Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) on December 17 (departs at 7:20 AM, the morning after the game)
  • Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) on January 5 (departs at 7:41 PM)

United will also fly larger planes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) on October 27th and to Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB). Additionally, United is adding an additional nonstop flight between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on October 9th and 10th (outbound) and October 14th and 15th (return) for the Bears/Jaguars game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning, said:

As Chicago’s Hometown AirlineĀ® and long-standing sponsor of the Chicago Bears, we’re proud to show our support this season with this special schedule for fans. Our enhanced schedule gives customers options no other carrier is providing, making it easier for fans to support the Bears on the road during some of the biggest games of the season.”

Anthony’s Take: I’m not a football fan, but I know many who are and travel planning isn’t always easy if you’re following a team on its away schedule. United is making it easier for Bears fans this year (and the London flights offer an extra choice even for those not following the team).
