Yesterday, I wrote about how United is adding a new nonstop flight to Adelaide Airport (ADL) and a second daily flight to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). These are just two of the nearly 300 flights per day this summer to 100 destinations that United will fly from its hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This is 20% more than last year and up 6% from 2019 (when it was at it’s largest pre-pandemic). This year will be United’s biggest in San Francisco (it’s also by far the largest airline in the Bay Area and the only US carrier to serve Europe from there).

United flies to 111 global cities from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and will offer approximately 300 daily flights this summer. The airline added 11 new international destinations and nine new and reinstated domestic cities over the past four years, including Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), Kansas City International Airport (MCI), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), as well as new flights to San Jose’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Costa Rica and Panama’s Tocumen International Airport (PTY) starting next month.

United CEO, Scott Kirby, said:

We’re winning more and more Bay Area customers because of our investments in the product, the experience and the places we fly. Our growth in SFO is a direct result of United’s ambitious network strategy, which has set us apart from the competition and cemented our status as the world’s largest airline.”

Currently, a $2.6 billion airport construction project is underway. This will modernize and expand Terminal 3 to allow for continued growth. United is also one of the Bay Area’s largest employers with more than 13,000 employees. The airline hired more than 1,600 airport operations employees in 2024 and plans to add 1,200 more this year.

Anthony’s Take: United continues to expand its reach and I have been quite happy with the airline lately. SFO will always have a special place in my heart as I used to be through there every other week for many years.
