American Express was the first credit card issuer to open a US lounge back in 2013. The concept was novel at the time, but both Capital One (one location review here) and Chase (one location review here) have opened their own lounges since. It offered different amenities based upon location. The lounge at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) featured an Equinox Body Lab. That has now closed to make way for a Blue Roast by American Express full-service coffee bar.
The Equinox Body Lab was a fitness space that offered activities like yoga and meditation. It has now closed and I think most lounge guests will prefer the Blue Roast by American Express coffee bar that is filling the space. This is not the first time that American Express has cut or changed amenities. Back in October, it removed Exhale Spas that offered facials and nail treatments from three of its lounges.
New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will be the second lounge to feature Blue Roast by American Express. The coffee bar is also found in the Centurion® Lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) (my lounge review is here). American Express issued a statement to Upgraded Points with the official news. It reads:
Given the popularity of the Blue Roast by American Express full-service coffee bar in the Centurion Lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, we recently opened a second location in the Centurion Lounge at John F. Kennedy Airport. Guests can order a variety of espresso beverages, cold brew, and seasonal specialty coffee drinks as well as smoothies and healthy bites such as avocado toast and chia pudding.”
Like everything else in the Centurion® Lounges, all of the coffee beverages and food will be complimentary.
Anthony’s Take: I thought the Blue Roast by American Express in the Centurion® Lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) was a nice addition and I’m happy to see a second one open in the New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) location.
Anthony’s Credit Card Pick: I love the lounges where The Platinum Card® from American Express grants me access. It has had a prominent place in my wallet for many years now. While it does have an annual fee of $695, it provides many travel benefits and will always be my go-to for lounge access (both Delta Sky Clubs® and Centurion® Lounges) and booking airfare from the airlines to earn 5x points (up to $500,000 per calendar year booked directly with passenger airlines or through American Express Travel).
