Delta Air Lines first announced its partnership with Shake Shack back in November. At the time, Shake Shack Burgers were available for pre-order out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). The relationship expanded last month with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) added to the list of cities where it’s possible to select this meal. I have wanted to try it in-flight since it was announced and today was the day I finally got to give it a taste test.

In the past, I have reviewed the burger that United was serving along with French fries as well as what Delta was offering in a head-to-head battle (review here). I was so excited to have a Shake Shack burger at 30,000 feet and am a big fan of Danny Meyer’s burger chain (going back to when it opened in 2004). My office at the time was near Madison Square Park and I’d pop over there frequently. I’ve found Shake Shack locations all over the world, including a surprise one in Istanbul. Tampa International Airport (TPA) just got its own nearby location.

The Shake Shack Burger was served deconstructed with the Shack Sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on the side. Ketchup and mustard were also provided. The tray included a Caesar salad, Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt chips, and a Dark Chocolate Brownie (also branded Shake Shack). The burger was delicious and almost as good as what you can get on the ground. The bun was soft, the cheese was melted but not overly so, and the meat was tender. The sides fit the burger perfectly.

A card on the tray detailed the partnership. I love that this is now a choice on Delta flights and it is not going to be good for my waistline that I can order Shake Shack in flight.

Anthony’s Take: The Shake Shack meal on Delta Air Lines lived up to the hype. I will definitely be ordering this one again.
