Silver Airways has been making news lately and not for good reasons. Yesterday, the carrier announced that it was ceasing service to Anguilla’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA). Silver tried to place the blame on the government and Anguilla fired back citing tons of unpaid bills from the airline (who is now in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection). Today, Silver took to social media to call out the government of Anguilla again and call its actions irrational.

The jab came as Silver Airways announced that it was adding additional frequencies to its flights to nearby Saint Martin’s Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Silver it touting ferry service from Saint Martin to Anguilla. It changed the tweet moments later to remove the message.

For context, Silver’s permit to fly to Anguilla has been revoked because it owes more than $103,000 in unpaid fees. The government of Anguilla tried to collect on Silver’s debt, but was unsuccessful. In September 2024, Silver Airways was informed that if it did not pay that its permit would be revoked. The airline had not declared bankruptcy then and is now trying to hide behind its Chapter 11 protection by saying that it’s not legally permitted to make any payments (but it still wanted to fly to Anguilla).

Anthony’s Take: I’ve got my popcorn ready to see what happens next with this ongoing feud between Silver Airways and the government of Anguilla. I have to wonder how many other airports/destinations also have unpaid bills and what that will do to Silver in the long run if all of that debt is not discharged.
