We spent a night in Toronto after our flight home from Paris. We were hungry and looking for something different after several French meals. I came across DASHA and knew it was just what I wanted: modern Chinese in a fun atmosphere. The reviews were great and I was able to make a reservation. I’m happy I picked a later time because our flight ended up being two hours late.
Anthony’s Take: We had a delicious dinner at DASHA. If you go on a Sunday night or Monday to Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, they have a great deal. We didn’t know about it before going, but for $45 CAD per person you can get an all-you-can-eat option with some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes. The decor, vibe, and music is a lot of fun. If you’re in Toronto and looking for a Instagram-worthy scene that also delivers on food, check this place out.
Decor & Vibe
The restaurant is dark and fun with nods to Chinese restaurants and lots of spots that will look great on Instagram.
The kitchen is open and I liked being able to see food prepared.
The space has a fun vibe, similar to Good Fortune in St. Petersburg, but the food is also good here (unlike Good Fortune; review here).
Flowers, art, and lots of purple lighting fill the space.
A giant neon pagoda surrounds the bar.
Food
As mentioned, there is a great deal here on Sunday nights and weekday happy hour. We opted for this menu and also added the potatoes after the server raved about them. If you don’t go for the special menu, there is an a la carte offering that also includes raw dishes and steaks. The “Bottomless Bites” includes seven dishes and we tried them all (we had two orders of two of these plates).
The Pork Belly Bao was tender and tasty.
Har Gow came next. I liked the spicy sauce and we ordered another round of these dumplings.
Black Dragon Dumplings arrived a moment later. These were my husband’s favorite and we had two orders of these pork and truffle dumplings.
The Vegetable Dumplings came seconds later. These were good, but a little nondescript.
Next, we tasted the Spicy Dan Dan Noodles. These were a little more peanuty than I’m used to for Dan Dan noodles, but they were still good.
Vegetable Fried Rice was brought out next. This was my least favorite dish as it was rather bland.
Sweet and Sour Chicken arrived next. It was prepared well.
We added the Potato with Ontario Cheese Curd and Truffle based on the server’s recommendation. It was sublime.
Drinks
DASHA offers a full bar and wine list. I had sparkling rosé and my husband ordered the Shanghai Nights. It has Ciroc Peach, Soju, Aloe, Lime, and Lemongrass.
Overall Impression:
The food, service, and atmosphere all impressed me at DASHA. We enjoyed the meal thoroughly and found it reasonably priced.
