A would-be passenger freaked out when he learned that the American Airlines‘ ticket he was sold was fake. The enraged man smashed $22,000 worth of computer equipment at the airline’s check-in area at Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL).

He had purchased a counterfeit ticket and thought that he would be flying to Miami International Airport (MIA). When check-in agents informed him that his ticket was not valid, he pulled a hammer from his backpack and began wreaking havoc.
Bystanders watched as he began smashing computers, monitors, and anything else within reach. The Western Santiago Prefecture Police were called and they took the Haitian national into custody. American Airlines commented simply with: “We thank our team for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
Anthony’s Take: It’s awful that this man was scammed, but this is certainly not the right way to handle the situation. Now, the man is certainly not headed to Miami and will end up with a huge bill in the process.

What a moron. Forgetting for a moment that American wasn’t the party at fault and that there would have been many serious questions about why he was trying to fly with a hammer in his carryon, if he was interested in going to jail then why not attack the jerk who sold him the ticket?
